Avoiding Parental Pitfalls

BIBLE REFERENCE:  Genesis 25 : 20 - 28; 27 :10 - 14

MEDITATION -  Luke 2:19  But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

This week, we're exploring the risks of lopsided parenting, as seen in the story of Isaac and Rebekah. Unlike Mary, who trusted God's plan for Jesus, Isaac and Rebekah struggled to ensure their children's futures unfolded smoothly.

Rebekah tried to manipulate the outcome, fearing the prophecy about her children would fail. She even went so far as to say she'd rather bear a curse than let the prophecy fail. But who gave her the right to decide how God's plan should unfold?

This attitude can lead us to interfere with God's plans instead of trusting Him. When Rebekah asked about the struggles in her womb, it wasn't wrong. But what she did with that information was.

The message was a warning to Isaac and Rebekah to beware of lopsided parenting, which can confuse and harm our children. Instead of heeding the warning, they did the opposite, affecting generations to come.

Isaac was a passive parent, indulging Esau's love of hunting and not pushing Jacob to reach his potential. Rebekah, on the other hand, pampered Jacob and monitored Esau's actions. She was willing to take on a curse to ensure the prophecy was fulfilled, creating problems where none existed.

Let's be mindful of our actions and seek God's guidance. Before and after receiving a message from God, we should ask for wisdom to understand and apply it correctly. May God's grace and mercy help us avoid mistakes and follow His path.
May we trust in God's plan and avoid the dangers of lopsided parenting. May His wisdom guide us as we seek to follow His path. In Jesus' name, Amen.

  TOPIC: CHANNEL BLOCKERS  BIBLE VERSE:  John 4 v 14 - 19 As I reflect on the conversation between Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well, I'm struck by the profound interest Jesus showed in her life. When He asked her to call her husband, she revealed the truth about her past, and Jesus gently exposed the reality of her situation. Think about it - this woman had been through so much, with five previous husbands and now living with someone who wasn't her husband. It's likely her self-worth was tainted, and her self-esteem was low. But Jesus saw beyond her struggles. He saw a woman yearning for something more, something that would bring her true fulfillment.
